South Elite Rugby Academy All-American Summer Clinic
July 10th - 14th 2010
The second All-American summer clinic will be hosted at Furman University (Greenville, SC) from July 10th - 14th, 2010.
The Academy was formed in 2008 by S. Nigel Platt, John Roberts and Vince Atkinson, who have a combined total of 80 years of playing, coaching and officiating between them. All have coached at the select side level and continue to do so.
Furman Rugby Stadium - was constructed in 2008 and is the finest rugby-only university facility in the Southeast. The field was named after the Paladins Head Coach and is now known as - "John Roberts Field". The field boasts the best playing surface in the Southeast all year round and has hosted many Rugby South Championships and Tournaments.
The Campus - Furman, a selective private liberal arts university, has been ranked by the "Princeton Review" as one of the most scenic college campuses in the USA. Campers will enjoy the impressive facilities including a recently renovated fitness center, indoor pool, and state-of-the-art dining hall. Accommodation will be on the secure campus.
Equipment and Gear - Each camper must bring athletic gear (preferably rugby), including shorts (rugby), socks and a light and dark colored t-shirt, a mouthpiece, training shoes (sneakers) and boots (rugby or football for the field). Swim wear and towel should also be brought, along with a personal water bottle and sunscreen.
Our Philosophy - All our athletes will learn in a fun, highly structured environment, that fosters good sportsmanship, and a mastery of basic skills and spirited competition. While coaching and teaching rugby is our number one priority, our campers will enjoy a variety of interactive activities, including swimming, group games, hikes, movies and more.
What you will achieve - The SERA camp is designed for the high school rugby player (those with three years or less playing experience). The academy will partner with each camper to build a solid rugby foundation by emphasizing fundamentals along with skills and techniques that are coached to All-Star teams and the USA All-American team.
Our drills will stress the correct way every time. The techniques you master at camp will help you reduce the risk of injury and become a more effective player. At the end of camp each camper will receive a player evaluation form.
Campers will also be guided through drills and techniques by guest player - instructors from the USA All-Americans.
